Interim

Project

The negative effects of climate change-related weather extremes are especially severe in urban areas. High grades of surface sealing and building densities aggravate the risks of flooding due to heavy rainfall and the incidence of urban heat islands.

The AMAREX project investigates opportunities for adapting stormwater management to increasing extremes of heavy rain and drought as key contributions to climate change adaptation. Additionally, the impaired urban water balance is reviewed as a key assessment indicator for water extremes. The project aims at planning tools for municipalities, which will be developed in close cooperation with partner cities Cologne and Berlin.
